Miner V Wild 2025

During August, this group of dedicated miners are embarking on a unique fundraiser to support youth mental health in WA.

The West Australian Mining Community: A Force for Good

Venturing into the rugged Australian bush, these miners are not just seeking to prove their mettle but are also aiming to raise vital funds for Youth Focus, to enable the provision of essential support services to young Western Australians.

Eight miners and an ex-SAS guide will be dropped in the Kimberley with only survival equipment and limited supplies, to trek and survive for five days in the unforgiving Australian North.

$200,000 Goal

We are aiming to raise $200,000 to further enhance the Work Focus program, an evidence based program that guides and mentors young people aged 12-25 to overcome mental health barriers to finding, gaining, and sustaining employment and/or education opportunities.

For over 30 years, Youth Focus has been providing mental health counselling and support services to young people aged between 12-25 years old, making a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of families. In 2023/2024 Youth Focus supported 3,707 young people with 22,290 occasions of service.

Youth Focus is the only non-government youth specialist mental health service in Western Australia that offers young people early intervention mental health counselling and support, without referral and at no cost to them or their families.

"At Youth Focus we are on a mission. We want a world where mental health challenges don’t get in the way of young people being who they want to be. A world where there is someone to help when a young person is brave enough to put their hand up to ask for it – whenever they need it, without having to wait and without having to pay for the support they need" – Derry Simpson Youth Focus CEO

At Youth Focus we aim to create a community in which young people feel safe reaching for support, and that high-quality services are available when they do. We want this to be the reality for all young people, everywhere in Western Australia. Our services are accessible, evidence-based, and youth-specific and include:

Counselling for a wide variety of mental health and wellbeing challenges.

Education and community engagement

Vocational support for work and study goals

Support for communities impacted by suicide, natural disasters, and other crises
